2018-2019 Elections - Young Lawyers Board of Directors

Director - Christopher Metry

I was born in St. Clair Shores Michigan to Mark and Kyle Metry. Law has always been a passion and goal of mine coming from a legal oriented family. My father Mark Metry has been an attorney for over thirty years and a magistrate in the 40th district court for over fifteen years. My uncle Judge Dean C. Metry is a federal Administrative Law Judge. Also my grandfather Gilbert Metry was an attorney who practiced for numerous years with his brother Fredrick Metry in the courts in and around metro Detroit. Growing up I was surrounded by these legal minds and knew that I wanted to pursue a career in law.

I attended college at Central Michigan University before going to Law School at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While in law School I was on the Student Bar Association and competed in the mock trial competition. After law school I left the state and moved to Washington DC. I worked for three years as an attorney advisor for Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. During this time in DC I learned a great deal about administrative and health care law. But, after three years doing appeals I decided I wanted to return to my families law practice and get back into the courtroom. Prior to leaving for DC I was working in the law firm of Metry and Metry and was an active member of the YLS. I am currently working at Metry and Metry with my Cousin Judge Theodore Metry and my father. They are great sources of information and have helped me make a full transformation back into a courtroom attorney.

I plan on staying in private practice in Macomb County and I believe I can help other young lawyers make the transition from law school to attorney. I mainly practice in Macomb County and have been to all the courts and make it a point to try to know the judges whom I practice in front of. While I was out of the state for three years I did learn a great deal about administrative law and I believe that this experience can help the YLS reach out to young attorneys who work with administrative law. I believe my experience and willingness to work hard will make me the perfect candidate for the Macomb County Bar Associations Young Lawyers Section Board of Directors.
