Macomb County Circuit Court 2014 Settlement Week
The Macomb County Circuit Court has announced plans to hold a “Settlement Week” on March 25, 26, and 27, 2014. The goal of Settlement Week is to reduce the number of pending cases at the Circuit Court. The Circuit Court last held a Settlement Week in 1993, and over 54% of the mediation sessions resulted in a settlement.
Non-complex civil cases which have completed and rejected case evaluation will be scheduled for 1 ½ hour mediation sessions during 2014 Settlement Week. Attorneys (as well as individuals acting in pro per) will be notified that their case will be scheduled to participate in Settlement Week in early January. The notice will include additional information concerning Settlement Week. Attorneys and parties will subsequently receive a notice identifying their mediator and setting a specific time for their mediation session.
Someone with settlement authority will be expected to attend the scheduled mediation session. Visiting judges will be on hand to place settlements on the record. If a case does not settle, the parties will be instructed to set a trial date at the conclusion of their mediation session. Participation in Settlement Week will not have any effect on pending events in a given case. Parties will still be expected to meet all deadlines and appear at all hearings scheduled in their case, even if a mediation session is set for Settlement Week.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Settlement Week, please contact John Nizol, Circuit Court Legal Services Director, at (586) 469-5159, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
