Franchising is a government granted right to a person or corporation. For instance, a taxi permit, bus route, airline's use of a public airport, business license, or corporate existence. Franchising also includes the right granted to operate a business or sell goods under a brand name or chain. For instance, McDonald's, Holiday Inns, Ace Hardware, Rexall Drug Stores, and Amway Distributions. Franchising Tax is placed on businesses in order to conduct business, i.e. a franchise tax. Distinguished from a property tax or income tax.
